La Paz, Bolivia, a massive mudslide destroyed approximately 500 homes, displacing more than 4,000 people on February 27 2011. There are no reported deaths at this time, but the aftermath of disaster will cause the bolivians to go hungry. Heavy rains caused the mudslide to wipe out homes in seven districts of La Paz. Food for the Hungry is responding by providing wood pallets as a base for emergency tents, shoes and other non-food items. The devastating mudslide came days after the Bolivian government declared a national emergency after rains and flooding caused more than 50 people to die and 10,000 to be homeless in the country.
